Joe's Waterhole is a central feature of Eumundi, built originally in 1891. We have four guest rooms available, air-conditioned with TV, bar fridge and tea/coffee making facilities and shared bathroom facilities.
What was once the old beer garden has now been transformed into a modern music venue attracting visitors from Brisbane as well as locals from all over the Sunshine Coast and worth a detour for some top touring musicians.
Many international bands have played at Joe's and we have some great entertainment coming up every week. Just click on the gig guide for details.
For those wanting a quiet drink or meal, visit our air-conditioned Gaming Lounge with 15 poker machines or air-conditioned Woodcutters Bistro with a great menu and big screen TV.
Renowned in country circles, Uncle Bob’s Jug Band entertains the market crowd during Saturday lunch at the pub.
Well worth the short 20 minutes drive from Noosa to enjoy the music and atmosphere in this unique historical venue. From other areas Eumundi is easy to reach along the Bruce Highway and you will find Joe's just one km from the Bruce Highway exit.
Our history
There is a lot of history and family tradition at Joe’s Waterhole Hotel. This historic hotel as it stands today was once the Commercial, which was rebuilt in 1926 after a fire swept through Eumundi in 1924. In 1962 Joe Whiting took over ownership when he swapped his sugar-cane farm in Maroochydore for the hotel. It became known colloquially as Joe’s Waterhole and was officially renamed in 1987.
Joe Whiting was a boxer and had a name as a practical joker. The glass still hangs from the ceiling of the public bar where it was originally placed ‘to catch the drips’! Joe also coined the phrase “Free Beer Tomorrow” and as everyone knows, tomorrow never comes. We do however, give away plenty of country hospitality.
Joe and his wife Lucy ran the pub for 20 years until an accident which left him a quadriplegic. In 1982 their son Ray took over and was still running the show until recently when the hotel went under the hammer, closing the book on 43 years of Whiting family history.
Along with the friendly staff who stayed on, the new owner Brett Lewis is keen to maintain the current atmosphere of Joe's, including the high standard of entertainment that Joe's has become famous for.
